Who we are
Welcome to Ambleside Youth Choir, the new face of Pacific Spirit Children’s Choir! With the same enduring spirit and enthusiasm, we’re embracing a fresh new look as we move forward together.
Since 2009, Ambleside Youth Choir (formerly Pacific Spirit Children’s Choir) has been dedicated to fostering choral excellence among young singers on the North Shore of beautiful British Columbia. For the last 15 years, we have had the immense privilege to rehearse and perform on the Coast Salish Lands of the Ambleside neighbourhood in West Vancouver.
Founded by Gerald Van Wyck as a sibling choir to the adult Pacific Spirit Choir, our mission has always been to provide a fun, educational, and deeply musical experience for children in the community. Over the years, we have grown into the North Shore’s premier choral organization for young singers, with three active ensembles catering to different ages and levels of experience. Our current Artistic Director, Kiyomi Hori, who joined us in 2014, is passionate about the transformative power of music and leads us into an exciting new chapter.
At Ambleside Youth Choir, we strive to create a supportive and inclusive environment where young singers ages 5-19 can grow as singers and artists and connect with like-minded peers. We celebrate every voice and embrace a diverse repertoire that reflects a wide range of musical traditions and cultures, highlighting both global influences and our local communities.
Music has the power to unite and inspire, and we offer numerous performance opportunities throughout the year for our singers to share their music with enthusiastic audiences. Our three core ensembles are non-auditioned, ensuring that every young person with a passion for singing can find their place within our choir community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to expand our horizons with plans to introduce an auditioned youth choir for ages 16-24, introducing more advanced singers a new platform to showcase their skills and develop their musical abilities. Additionally, we are developing outreach and educational programs designed to engage young people in music and foster a deeper understanding of various cultural music traditions. These initiatives aim to further enrich our community and provide valuable opportunities for learning and collaboration.
